Belize Mutual Fund Licenses

Belize Mutual Fund Licenses are issued under the Belize Mutual Funds Act Revised Edition 2011. For businesses that are seeking to offer services to the general public, it is recommended that they obtain the public fund license out of the three types of licenses offered in Belize. The licensing process for a Belize Mutual Fund License involves two steps and involves a Minister and the Registrar of Mutual Funds empowered to issue the license.

Prior to the actual process of applying for a Belize Mutual Fund License, consent has to be obtained from the Minister. After obtaining consent, the second step involves the formal application to the Registrar. As a part of the application, information needs to be provided about the company as well as the directors, general partners or trustees, and managers, administrators, investment advisers, and custodians.

The fee for an application for consent from the Minister is $200.

The fee payable to the Registrar for the issuance of a registration certificate is $500. After completion of the application process, the Registrar will issue a certificate of registration. An annual fee of $500 also has to be paid every year before 31 January to renew the license. In addition to the application process, there is a need for continued compliance including maintenance of accounting records and submission of information to the Registrar.
